Turnout

Turnout describes how a horse presents before a race — coat condition, muscle definition, temperament in the yard and the way it moves in the parade. Experienced observers use it as a live read on wellbeing that no form line captures: a horse sweating heavily, fractious in the yard, or looking short of a run can be a valid reason to downgrade an otherwise strong claim.
