All-Weather Track

An all-weather track is an artificial racing surface — sand, fibre and wax composites such as Polytrack or Pro-Ride — designed to drain quickly and remain consistent regardless of weather. Australian venues including Geelong, Ballarat and Pakenham use them as wet-weather alternatives. Form on all-weather surfaces transfers imperfectly to turf: the tracks tend to race evenly with less pronounced bias, and some horses show a clear preference for one or the other.
