Inside Rail

The inside rail is the fence marking the shortest path around the track. Racing on the fence saves ground but risks being trapped without a run, so a rider's decision to hold the rail or ease out is a genuine tactical trade-off. When the rail has been out and is returned to true, the inside lanes carry fresher grass and the fence can become the fastest ground on the track.
