Sand Track

A sand track is a training surface of sand, sometimes with a fibre component, used for gallops and for racing at a small number of venues. Sand rides deeper than turf and demands a different action, so a horse with good sand form does not necessarily reproduce it on grass. Trial and jump-out form recorded on sand needs the surface noted before it is compared with turf performance.

In use

The horse trialled well on the sand but had never raced on turf.
