Chute

A chute is a straight extension off the main track that provides a starting point for particular distances, giving runners a straight run before joining the circuit. Chutes change the character of a race by lengthening the run to the first turn, which reduces the disadvantage of a wide barrier and often produces a more genuine tempo than a start close to a bend.

In use

The 1400m start comes out of the chute, giving a long run to the first turn.
