True Rail

The true rail position is the rail at its innermost setting, meaning the race distance is exactly as advertised with no metres added. When the rail is out, the effective distance increases and track records set off the true rail are not comparable. Clubs publish the rail position for every meeting for this reason, and it is a required piece of context for reading sectional times across meetings.

In use

Records only stand when set with the rail in the true position.
