Stipendiary Steward

A stipendiary steward is a full-time salaried official employed by the racing authority to enforce the rules of racing — investigating incidents, questioning riders and trainers, conducting inquiries and issuing penalties. Stewards' reports published after each meeting record protests, veterinary findings and explanations for poor performance, and they are among the most useful public documents for understanding a result.
