Jockey

A jockey is a licensed professional who rides racehorses in competition, riding at a set weight and making the tactical decisions during a race — where to settle, when to move, which lane to take. Jockey strike rate varies substantially by track, distance and trainer combination, and a rider change from a leading jockey to a less proven one is a meaningful negative signal on a heavily backed runner.

In use

The jockey's strike rate at this track and distance is well above his overall figure.

On FormRace

FormRace computes jockey strike rates by track, distance and trainer combination as model features.
