Placegetter

A placegetter is a horse finishing within the positions that pay a place dividend — first, second or third in fields of eight or more, and first or second in fields of five to seven. Place markets carry less turnover than win markets and are often less efficiently priced as a result, which makes them a common target for punters looking for mispricing rather than for winners.

Three placings from four starts without a win still marks a reliable placegetter.
