Roughie

A roughie is a runner at long odds that a punter believes is underrated — the Australian term for a live outsider rather than simply any horse at a big price. The distinction matters: backing longshots indiscriminately loses money because the betting public systematically overbets them, so a roughie is only worth backing where there is a specific reason the market has the horse wrong.
