Speed Map

A speed map projects the likely running positions of each horse in the early stages, based on barrier, established racing pattern and early speed. It answers the question that decides many races: who leads, who is trapped wide, and whether the tempo will be genuine or slow. A race with several genuine leaders will be run fast and set up for closers; one with a single uncontested leader often becomes a sprint home.

In use

Three genuine leaders drawn inside projected a fast tempo and a swooper's race.

On FormRace

FormRace generates a projected speed map for every race and reads the resulting race shape as one of its four favourite checks.
