Strike Rate

Strike rate is the proportion of starts that produce a win, quoted for horses, jockeys, trainers and combinations. It is the most-cited statistic in racing and the most misused: a strike rate over a small sample is close to meaningless, and a high figure achieved on short-priced favourites may still be unprofitable. Strike rate should always be read with sample size and the average price alongside it.

In use

A 22% strike rate from 40 rides is a far weaker claim than 18% from 900.

On FormRace

FormRace computes jockey and trainer strike rates by track, distance and combination.
