Gelding

A gelding is a male horse that has been castrated, most often to improve temperament and concentration. Gelding a horse ends any stud value, so the decision is usually taken when a colt's manners or ability rule out a breeding career. Geldings frequently race longer and more consistently than entires, and a sharp improvement in the first start or two after gelding is a well-known form angle.
