Filly

A filly is a female horse four years old or younger; from five she is a mare. Fillies frequently race against their own sex in restricted company, and receive a weight allowance when meeting colts and geldings in open races — typically 2kg over the classic distances. Like colts, successful fillies carry residual breeding value that can exceed anything they earn on the track.
