Bankroll

A bankroll is the fixed sum a punter has allocated to betting, kept separate from everyday money. Staking plans are expressed as a percentage of bankroll rather than a dollar amount, so bet size scales with the pool and a losing run cannot wipe it out in a handful of races. Disciplined bankroll management is the difference between variance being survivable and being terminal.

In use

Betting 2% of a $1,000 bankroll means a $20 unit, falling to $18 after a 10% drawdown.
