Jackpot

A jackpot occurs when no ticket holds the winning combination in a pooled bet such as a quaddie or a First Four, and the pool rolls into the same bet type at a later meeting. Jackpotted pools attract far more money than usual, which increases both the dividend on offer and the number of punters chasing it. A jackpot changes the value calculation because the carried-over money is dead money nobody paid for.

In use

A quaddie jackpot of $180,000 rolls into the following Saturday's meeting.
