Distance

Distance is the race length, expressed in metres since Australia's move from imperial units. Races are grouped loosely as sprints up to about 1400m, milers around 1400m to 1800m, middle distance to roughly 2000m, and staying races beyond. Distance suitability is one of the strongest predictors in form analysis: a proven sprinter stretching out to 2000m for the first time is speculating, whatever its recent record.
